About Us

The Old Granary Studio

The Old Granary itself is part of the great Raveningham Estate which has been the ancestral home of Sir Nicholas Bacon's family for hundreds of years. The historic building was constructed in the 1790s and retains many original features of its agricultural past.

The Old Granary sets the backdrop in achieving the best artistic performance. It has been converted to provide a large open space which doubles as a recital hall and recording facility. With a raised platform at one end, large enough to accommodate two grand pianos, chamber orchestra or choir, complete with wonderfully responsive acoustics, described by visitors as a 'mini Snape Maltings'. There is seating for an audience of 120.

The Old Granary Studio was opened in June 2000 for the recording of classical music. A successful concert series was launched a year later and continues to flourish with twelve varied events this year.

Information

The Concert Hall

The Old Granary has been converted to provide a large open space, which doubles as a recital hall and recording facility. With raised platform at one end, large enough to accommodate two grand pianos, chamber orchestra or choir, the Old Granary gives recording artists the feel of performing to a live audience, (there is room enough for an audience of 150!), complete with wonderfully responsive acoustics, described by visitors as a “mini Snape Maltings”.

No longer do classical musicians need to record in studios where the acoustics give nothing back! Here, you will delight in the responsiveness of the Old Granary, whether you are a pianist, wind player, string player or singer.

The Studio Facilities

With classical musicians in mind, the Old Granary has not only been designed to provide the right setting, but can also offer both amateur and professional musicians the kind of sound quality associated with the very best studios worldwide.

As a fundamental requirement for most recording situations there has to be a top quality piano. At the Old Granary Studio you will find two highly sought after Steinway Model D concert grand pianos.

Off-site, other members of the team take care of design and printing of CD inlay booklets, J-cards and on-body printing of CD discs, as well as the duplication of CD’s, or mini-discs, as required by the client.

Where are we?

Delightfully situated in the heart of the South Norfolk countryside, the Old Granary Studio is some 14 miles south of Norwich, with its active musical life, and 3 miles north of the quaint town of Beccles, just over the border, marked by the River Waveney.

The Old Granary itself is part of the great Raveningham Estate which has been under the ownership of Sir Nicholas Bacon’s family for hundreds of years. The Studio is reckoned to be over 200 years old and creates the perfect atmosphere for creative musicians to perform at their very best.

Coming by train?

Despite its wonderful rural setting, the Old Granary is easily accessed from London by mainline train service from Liverpool Street to Beccles, where we can arrange collection in person or taxi.

Coming by car?

Roads to East Anglia have improved immensely in the last few years. There is now an easy link to the M11 and London via the A11, which is now mostly dual carriageway. From Cambridge, the Midlands and all points North and West, the excellent new A14 brings you all the way from the M6 right into Suffolk.
